Media vita in morte sumus

Media vita in morte sumus
quem quaerimus adjutorem
nisi te Domine
qui pro peccatis nostris
juste irasceris.

Sancte Deus
sancte fortis
sancte et misericors Salvator
amarae morti ne tradas nos.

Nunc dimittis servum tuum, Domine
secundum verbum tuum in pace
quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum
quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum,
lumen ad revelationem gentium
et gloriam plebis tuae Israel.

Gloria Patri
et Filio
et Spiritui Sancto
sicut erat in principio
et nunc et semper
et in saecula saeculorum .
Amen.

Media vita in morte sumus
quem quaerimus adjutorem
nisi te Domine
qui pro peccatis nostris
juste irasceris.

Ne projicias nos in tempore senectutis
cum defecerit virtus nostra
ne derelinquas nos Domine.

Sancte Deus
noli claudere aures tuas ad preces nostras, Domine
Sancte fortis
Qui cognoscis occulta cordis
parce peccatis nostris, Domine
sancte et misericors Salvator
amarae morti ne tradas nos.

n the middle of live we are in death:
whom will we call as a helper
if not you, Lord,
who for our sins
justly have got angry?

Holy God,
holy and strong,
holy and merciful Saviour,
don’t bring a bitter death to us.

Oh Lord, now let your servant
go in peace according to your word
because my eyes have seen your salvation,
that you have prepared before the face of all people
as a light to enlighten the nations
and a glory for your people Israel.

Glory to the Father
and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit
as it was in the beginning,
and is now, and forever shall be,
and for all the ages.
Amen.

In the middle of live we are in death:
whom will we call as a helper
if not you, Lord,
who for our sins
justly have got angry?

Don’t reject us in the old age,
when our virtue will fail
and don’t abandon us, oh Lord.

Holy God,
please don’t close your ears to our prayers, Lord.
Holy and strong,
you who know the secrets of the heart,
have mercy on our sins, Lord,
holy and merciful Saviour,
don’t bring a bitter death to us.

In The Middle Of Live We Are In Death

quem quaerimus adjutorem

nisi te, Domine,
qui pro peccatis nostris
juste irasceris?

Sancte Deus,
sancte fortis,
sancte et misericors Salvator:
amarae morti ne tradas nos.

In the midst of life we are in death

of whom may we seek for succour,
but of thee, O Lord,
who for our sins
art justly displeased?

O holy God,
O holy and strong,
O holy and merciful Saviour,
deliver us not to bitter death.

The most accepted source is a New Year's Eve religious service in the 1300s.[1] Reference has been made to a source originating in a battle song of the year 912 by Notker the Stammerer, a monk of the Abbey of Saint Gall: however, the Synod of Cologne declared in 1316 no one should sing this without prior permission of the residing bishop.

Used by the Dominicans.
