IN TRANSFIGURATIONE DOMINI

IN TRANSFIGURATIONE DOMINI

Ad Officium lectionis: saec. XIII

Cæléstis formam glóriæ,
quam spes quærit Ecclésiæ,
in monte Christus índicat,
qui supra solem émicat.

Res memoránda sæculis:
tribus coram discípulis,
cum Elía, cum Móyse
grata promit elóquia.

Assístunt testes grátiæ,
legis vatúmque véterum;
de nube testimónium
sonat Patris ad Fílium.

Glorificáta fácie
Christus declárat hódie
quis honor sit credéntium
Deo pie fruéntium.

Visiónis mystérium
corda levat fidélium,
unde sollémni gáudio
clamat nostra devótio:

Pater, cum Unigénito
et Spíritu Paráclito
unus, nobis hanc glóriam
largíre per præséntiam. Amen.

Christ, who shine brighter than the sun, on the mountain reveals the beauty of heavenly glory, which the hope of the Church seeks. An event to be recalled through the ages: in the presence of three of his disciples, with Elijah and Moses, Jesus speaks pleasing words.  Witnesses of grace stand near,  the prophets of the old law, as from a cloud the testimony of the Father concerning the Son is told. Christ, his face shining with glory, reveals the honor of the those who believe and rejoice in  the holy God. The mystery of this vision lifts up the hearts of the faithful, wherefore our devotion cries out with solemn joy. O Father, with the Only-begotten and the Spirit Comforter, grant us this glory now. Amen.

Ad Laudes matutinas: saec. XII-XIII

Dulcis Iesu memória,
dans vera cordi gáudia,
sed super mel et ómnia
eius dulcis præséntia.

Nil cánitur suávius,
audítur nil iucúndius,
nil cogitátur dúlcius
quam Iesus Dei Fílius.

Iesu, dulcédo córdium,
fons veri, lumen méntium,
excédis omne gáudium
et omne desidérium.

Quando cor nostrum vísitas,
tunc lucet ei véritas,
mundi viléscit vánitas
et intus fervet cáritas.

Da nobis largus véniam,
amóris tui cópiam;
da nobis per præséntiam
tuam vidére glóriam.

Laudes tibi nos pángimus,
diléctus es qui Fílius,
quem Patris atque Spíritus
splendor revélat ínclitus. Amen.

Sweet memory of Jesus, giving true joys to the heart but sweeter even than honey and all things is his presence. Nothing better is sung, nothing happier is heard, nothing sweeter thought than Jesus the Son of God.  Jesus, the sweetness of hearts, source of truth, light of minds, you surpass all joy and every desire. When you visit our hearts, then truth shines, the vanity of the world loses its appeal, and charity burns within us.  Grant to us the increase of pardon, the abundance of love; grant us to see your glorious presence. We sing our praises to you the beloved Son, whom the shining splendor of the Father and the Spirit reveals. Amen.

Ad Vesperas: saec. IX

O nata lux de lúmine,
Iesu, redémptor sæculi,
dignáre clemens súpplicum
laudes precésque súmere.

Præ sole vultu flámmeus,
ut nix amíctu cándidus,
in monte dignis téstibus
apparuísti cónditor.

Vates alúmnis ábditos
novis vetústos cónferens,
utrísque te divínitus
Deum dedísti crédere.

Te vox patérna cælitus
suum vocávit Fílium,
quem nos fidéli péctore
regem fatémur cælitum.

Qui carne quondam cóntegi
dignátus es pro pérditis,
nos membra confer éffici
tui beáti córporis.

Laudes tibi nos pángimus,
diléctus es qui Fílius,
quem Patris atque Spíritus
splendor revélat ínclitus. Amen.

O Light begotten of light, Jesus, the Redeemer of the world, mercifully receive our humble praises and prayers. Flaming brighter than the face of the sun, whiter than the fall of snow, the Creator, you appeared with worthy witnesses on the mountain. Bringing the ancient prophets, hidden from the new disciples, you divinely caused them to believe that you were God. The heavenly voice of the Father called you his Son, whom we confess with faithful hearts to be the King of heaven. You who deigned to be clothed with our flesh for the sake of the lost,  and did make us members of your blessed body. We sing praises to you, who are the beloved Son, whom the shining splendor of the Father and the Spirit reveals. Amen

S. IGNATII DE LOYOLA, PRESBYTERI

S. IGNATII DE LOYOLA, PRESBYTERI

Ad Laudes matutinas & ad Vesperas: novus

Magnæ cohórtis príncipem
Ignátium laus cóncinat,
clarum loquélis, áctibus
ducem ciéntem mílites.

Regi suprémo cælitum
amóre vinctus único,
eius fovénda glória
nil cénsuit iucúndius.

Hinc se suósque dévovet,
urgéntis instar ágminis,
ut iura Christi víndicet,
erróris umbras díssipet.

Sancto monénte Spíritu,
certam salútis sémitam
scrutátor altus sæculis
doctórque prudens dénotat.

Suis alúmnis díssita
missis in orbis lítora,
Ecclésiam quot éxpetit
frondére lætam géntibus!

Sit Trinitáti glória,
quæ nos det huius mílitis
exémpla fortes pérsequi
in Christi honórem pérpetim. Amen.

May our praise sing of Ignatius, prince of a mighty cohort, brilliant in words and deeds, a commander rousing his soldiers for battle.  Bound by singular love for the supreme King of the citizens of heaven, he counted nothing happier  than fostering the King’s glory.  Hence he devoted himself and his companions like a fighting army to vindicate the authority of Christ and drive away the darkness of error.  Inspired by the Holy Spirit, a sublime guide and wise doctor of the world, he pointed out the sure path of salvation.  He spread out and sent  his disciples to distant shores of the world, wherever there was a desire for the Church he fostered joy among the nations. To the Trinity be glory, who grants us to follow bravely the example of this soldier for the eternal honor of Christ. Amen.

S. MARTHÆ

Ad Officium lectionis & ad Vesperas: novus

Te gratulántes pángimus,
Martha, beáta múlier,
quæ meruísti sæpius
Christum domi recípere.

Tantum libénter hóspitem
curis ornábas sédulis,
in plúrima sollícita
amóris dulci stímulo.

Pascis dum læta Dóminum,
soror ac frater ávide
possunt ab illo grátiæ
vitæque cibum súmere.

Captúro mortis trámitem
dante soróre arómata,
extrémi tu servítii
vigil donásti múnera.

Magístri felix hóspita,
corda fac nostra férveant,
ut illi gratæ iúgiter
sint sedes amicítiæ.

Sit Trinitáti glória,
quæ nos in domum cælicam
admítti tandem tríbuat
tecúmque laudes cánere. Amen.

We sing your praises, O Martha, blessed woman,  who was worthy often to receive Christ into your home. You so joyfully welcomed your guest with sollicit0us care, anxious in many things under the sweet sting of your love.  While you happily feed the Lord, your sister and brother enthusiastically were able to receive from him the food of grace and life. When the Lord was taken on the road to his death,  your sister provided him sweet smelling perfume and you gave the gift of final service by keeping watch over him. O happy hostess of the Master, make our hearts to burn to be grateful  seats of friendship. To the Trinity be glory, who grants at last for us to admitted into the heavenly home and with you to sing praises. Amen.

Ad Laudes matutinas: novus

Quas tibi laudes ferimúsque vota,
nos tuis possint méritis iuváre,
Martha, quam mire sibi corde iungit
  Christus amíco.

Te frequens visit Dóminus tuáque
in domo degit plácida quiéte
ac tuis verbis studiísque lætans
  teque minístra.

Tu prior fratrem quéreris perísse,
cumque germána lacrimáta multum,
áspicis vitæ súbita Magístri
  voce redíre.

Quæ fide prompta stábilem fatéris
spem resurgéndi, Dómino probánte,
ímpetra nobis cúpide in perénne
  pérgere regnum.

Laus Deo Patri, Genitóque virtus,
Flámini Sancto párilis potéstas,
glóriam quorum pétimus per ævum
  cérnere tecum. Amen.

We offer to you praise and prayers that by your merits they may help us , O Martha, whom Christ marvelously united to his heart in friendship. The Lord often visited you and in your home enjoyed peaceful rest, happy in your words and zeal and service. At first you protest the death of your brother and with your sister shed many tears, but then you see him restored to life at the command of the Master. Moved by faith you announce firm hope in the resurrection, when the Lord asks you,  pray that we may  eagerly come to the eternal kingdom. Praise to God the Father, strength to the Begotten, equal power to the Holy Spirit, whose glory we with you seek to see through ages. Amen.

SS. IOACHIM ET ANNÆ, PARENTUM BEATÆ MARIÆ VIRGINIS

SS. IOACHIM ET ANNÆ, PARENTUM BEATÆ MARIÆ VIRGINIS

Ad Officium lectionis & ad Vesperas: saec. XVII?

Dum tuas festo, pater o colénde,
cántico laudes habet hæc coróna,
vocis ac mentis, Ióachim, benígne
  áccipe munus.

Longa te regum séries avórum
Abrahæ prolem tulit atque David;
clárior mundi dómina corúscas
  prole María.

Sic tuum germen benedícta ab Anna
éditum, patrum repetíta vota
implet, et mæsto próperat reférre
  gáudia mundo.

Laus tibi, Prolis Pater increátæ;
laus tibi, summi Súboles Paréntis;
summa laus, compar, tibi sit per omne,
  Spíritus, ævum. Amen.

O venerable father, Joachim, as this circle offers you praise with a festal hymn, kindly receive the gift of voice and mind. The long succession of kings, your ancestors,  made you offspring of Abraham and David; but you shine brighter because of your child, Mary, Lady of the whole world. Thus, your offspring issuing forth from blessed Anne, fulfills the endless prayers of your fathers and hastens to turn the sorrow of the world into gladness. Praise to you, O Father of the uncreated Son, praise to you, O Progeny of the highest Father, highest and equal praise, O Spirit, be to you through all ages. Amen.

Ad Laudes matutinas: saec. XV

Nocti succédit lúcifer,
quem mox auróra séquitur,
solis ortum prænúntians
mundum lustrántis lúmine.

Christus sol est iustítiæ,
auróra Mater grátiæ,
quam, Anna, præis rútilans
legis propéllens ténebras.

Anna, radix ubérrima,
arbor tu salutífera,
virgam prodúcens flóridam
quæ Christum nobis áttulit.

O matris Christi génetrix
tuque parens sanctíssime,
natæ favénte mérito,
nobis rogáte véniam.

The morning star succeeds to night, the dawn soon follows, announcing the rising of the sun, which illuminates the world with light. Christ is the sun of justice, his Mother the dawn of grace, whom glittering Anne precedes, driving away the darkness of the law.  O Anne, the most fruitful root, you, the  saving tree, producing that flowering branch, which Christ brings to us. O Mother of the Mother of Christ, and you, her most holy parent, by the merits of your daughter, ask for us pardon.

S. IACOBI, APOSTOLI

S. IACOBI, APOSTOLI

Ad Laudes matutinas: novus

Te nostra lætis láudibus,
Iacóbe, tollunt cántica,
quem Christus arte ex rétium
ad tanta vexit cúlmina.

Ipso vocánte, cóncitus
cum fratre linquis ómnia,
ipsíus et fis nóminis
verbíque præco férvidus.

Testis poténtis déxteræ
præclárus alta cónspicis,
in monte celsam glóriam,
tristes in horto angústias.

Qui promptus exstas, póscitur
cum passiónis póculum,
tu primus ex apóstolis
pro Christi amóre plécteris.

Iesu fidélis ássecla
satórque lucis cælicæ,
mentes fide claréscere,
da spe fovéri péctora.

Christi sequi da sédulos
præcépta nos in sæculo,
hymnos ut olim glóriæ
fundámus illi pérpetim. Amen.

Our hymns with joyful praises are raised up to you, O James, whom Christ carried away from the work of the nets to such heights.  At his call you with your brother rose quickly forsaking everything that you might be a fervent preacher of  his name and his word.  A glorious witness of his powerful right hand, you contemplated lofty matters: on the mountain his heavenly glory; in the garden his sad anguish.  You bravely stood ready to drink the cup of his passion; you are the first of the apostles to be punished for the love of Christ.  Faithful follower of Jesus and Sower of heavenly light, grant that our souls may shine with faith, our hearts with burning hope.  Grant us diligently to follow the precepts of Christ in this world that in heaven we might pour forth hymns of glory to him forever. Amen.
