Collects: New and Old: St. John Eudes

 

Deus, qui beátum Ioánnem, Confessórem tuum, ad cultum sacrórum Córdium Iesu et Maríæ rite promovéndum, mirabíliter inflammásti, et per eum novas in Ecclésia tua famílias congregáre voluísti: præsta, quǽsumus; ut, cuius pia mérita venerámur, virtútum quoque instruámur exémplis.

O God, who did wondrously inspire blessed John, thy Confessor in promoting veneration to the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary, and didst will to found through him new religious families in the Church, grant we pray, that we, who venerate his holy merits, may be taught also by the example of his virtues.

Deus, qui beátum Ioánnem, presbýterum, ad annuntiándum investigábiles Christi divítias mirabíliter elegísti, da nobis, eius exémplis et mónitis, ut, in tua sciéntia crescéntes, secúndum Evangélii lumen fidéliter conversémur.

Almighty God and Father, you gave Saint John Eudes the wonderful grace of making known the inexhaustible riches of Christ Help us, by his example and teaching, to grow in knowledge of you, and to live faithfully by the light of the gospel.

Note that the new collect ignores the whole reason that St. John Eudes was canonized.
