The lover of mankind sent to the Virgin not just
any angel, but his strength, his archangel. May that angel hasten for us the strong message, that conquers the predisposition of
nature in the birth from a virgin. May
the King of Glory, being born, surpass nature, may he reign and rule and in
our midst separate the dross from
the leaven. May he humble the proud, powerful in battle, with his own might,
trampling underfoot haughty necks. May he cast out the prince of this world and
make his mother to share with him the authority of the Father. Go, you who have
been sent to spread news of these gifts, lift the veil covering the ancient
scripture with the might of your message. Draw near, face to face speak the
message “Hail”—say “full of grace, --say “the Lord is with you” –say “do not
fear”. O Virgin, receive what God has
given, by which you fulfill your chaste intention and keep your vow. The maiden hears and accepts the
announcement, she believes and conceives, and bears a son, yet a wondrous one:
Counselor of the human race and mighty God,
Father of posterity in perfect faith.
Whose steadfastness makes us partakers of his own steadfastness, lest our earthly mobility make us slip. But
may the giver of pardon by his excessive forgiveness, through the Mother of
Glory, once we have obtained grace, dwell in us. May he who grants to us pardon of sin, blot
out guilt, and give us the fatherland land in the starry heights. Amen.
