Chrysogonus
Waddell, OCSO Hymn Collections from the
Paraclete
This is the first in a series of Easter hymns, which all carry the refrain RESURREXIT
DOMINUS! The hymns each begin with a particular image, Mariam's tambourine, Goliath conquered, and the return of Spring. This hymn is concerned with the victo mortis principe.

O Christians, clap your hands, the Lord has
risen, the prince of death has been conquered, Christ rules, run to the Victor,
who has delivered us. The devil has been overcome, the Lord has risen, hell has
been despoiled, The Lord has rescued his own, surrounded by the angelic band,
he returns. Deceit is deceived by the
hook, the Lord has risen, the deceit, which feeds upon the flesh set about, is
pierced by the power implanted in the flesh. Hell below now taken captive, the
Lord has risen, those above are enriched, heaven rejoices, with hymns, psalms, canticles
earth resounds. Glory to God the Father, the Lord has risen, salvation and
victory to Christ the Lord, equal honor to the Spirit, through the ages. Amen.
